The Fabulous50s Longevity Tests

Start with one test

There are six Longevity Tests. Here is the first one, and you can do it right now with nothing but a chair. It takes 30 seconds and it tells you something the scales never will.

Step 1 of 3
1

How to do it

  1. Put a straight-backed chair against a wall so it cannot slide. A dining chair is about right, around 43 cm or 17 inches to the seat.
  2. Sit in the middle of the seat, feet flat on the floor, arms crossed over your chest.
  3. Set a timer for 30 seconds.
  4. Stand all the way up and sit all the way down, as many times as you can, until the timer goes.
  5. Count every full stand. If you are halfway up when the timer goes, count it.
Before you start. Keep something steady within reach. Effort is expected, pain is not, so stop if anything hurts or you feel dizzy. If you cannot do it without pushing off your knees, use your hands and make a note of it. That is your starting point, and it is a perfectly good one.

Use our timer, or your own

30 seconds

You will hear a beep to start and two beeps to finish, so you do not need to watch the screen. Turn your sound on, or use your own timer if you prefer.

Your numbers

30 seconds

You will hear a beep to start and two beeps to finish, so you do not need to watch the screen.

Your age is used to compare you with other women your age, which is the only comparison that means anything.

The six tests are built into The Fabulous50s Vitality App, scored for you, with your history kept and a retest every 35 days. Free for 14 days.

The other five

Five tests, five different things that decide whether you stay independent. Tap one to see what it involves.

The Longevity Tests are at-home self-assessments, adapted from published research and scored for your own progress. They are general education for women over 50, not a clinical assessment, and they do not diagnose anything or predict lifespan. If you have a medical condition or you are unsure, check with your doctor first.
